Down Time
Down Time is a project that I began in the winter of 2019. I’d been invited to take part in an exhibition at Brighton University by my friend Jane Fox. I began taking photos of down feathers that I would see on my daily walks. I planned to compile these into a small book. However, the exhibition had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. We have since moved back to St.Ives where I walk in Steeple Woods every day with my dog Olive, remembering my friend Nokka and his lifestyle and contemplating becoming, my own and that of the natural world around me. I began collecting down feathers and making them into small dishes to be held in the palm of the hand to inspire contemplation about the bird who preened and dropped the feather and the environment in which it and we all live.
